About Me
My name is Bryan Youn Lee, and I am a 19-year-old student from Seoul, South Korea, interested in Architecture! I currently model buildings and create renders.
This started as a small hobby by sketching architecture and building LEGO buildings but now expanded into something huge. I later learned to 3D model in SketchUp 3D and rendered high-quality renders in Twinmotion.
My Early Interest in Architecture
My journey in architecture started way back in 2011 from traveling throughout states in the US. My interest sparked my curiosity about the design philosophies used in buildings and structures. I would always sketch real-life buildings and analyze their architectural style of it. While my brother would buy Star Wars LEGO sets, I purchased LEGO Architecture sets as presents.
In 2013, I started sketching buildings I designed myself. Coming back from school, I would draw these buildings day and night. Even though it looks “horrible“ when I look back today, these interests helped me lay a foundation to develop the skills necessary for my modeling projects today. I would also build LEGO versions of my buildings to get a three-dimensional understanding of the architecture.
Elevation of Architecture
In 2017, I later learned to sketch architecture and did many projects. I started drawing buildings in 3D using perspective drawings.
I would later learn about architecture not just by sketching but also by the discipline itself too. I would create architecture and urban studies projects based on various materials from my school classes. In addition, I would watch documents about architecture and take courses online.
To The Next Level
After hitting the limitations of 2-dimensional sketches, I jumped into the world of 3D — 3D modeling. I self-studied 3D modeling in a CAD program called SketchUp 3D. As I booted up the software, I was overwhelmed by the number of complex tools and settings. So I first started making real-life buildings to improve my software handling.
Eventually, I tested my growing skills and began modeling the buildings I designed. After four years of experience, I could generate topography, utilize external plugins, and model advanced geometry.
Later, I learned to use a rendering software called Twinmotion. With this program, I learned to sculpt terrain, paint vegetation, utilize Quixel Bridge, and use the lighting and path tracing settings to optimize my renders.
I currently plan on studying architecture and urban studies at university — to dive deep into the discipline and venture into the world of architecture.
These are some of the projects I have created. Feel free to take a look!
